How to get a daily task from the Growth coach

5 min read

The Growth coach picks tasks for you each day: the most important cards on your to-do list, alongside one quick look that changes daily. It’s off until you turn it on. Once it’s on, it counts how many days in a row you’ve done a task.

You will learn #

  • How to turn the coach on
  • Where each day’s tasks come from, and what to do with them
  • What counts toward your streak
  • How to get a daily reminder, and how to turn the coach off

Before you begin #

  • The coach adds no new work. Its bigger tasks are cards from your to-do list, and its quick look opens a page you already have. It picks what to do today, so you don’t have to read the whole list first. Until cart recovery is on, it can suggest setting that up first, as Your next step does on the To do page.

Turn the coach on #

  1. In Tendlio’s menu, open Settings → General, and find Growth coach.
  2. Next to Daily coaching, switch on Turn on the Coach.
  3. Click Save settings.

The page reloads, and Growth coach appears in Tendlio’s menu.

After you’ve closed the Dashboard’s welcome card, your Dashboard also shows a Meet your growth coach card, with See your coach →, until you close it.

Do today’s task #

  1. In Tendlio’s menu, click Growth coach.
  2. Pick one of today’s tasks:
    • Biggest impact: the top card on your to-do list that has a button to act on it.
    • Good progress: the next card on your to-do list with a button.
    • Quick win: a quick look at one part of your store, such as your customer segments, your Restock list or your Store summary. It changes daily, and it isn’t a card from your to-do list.
  3. On a Biggest impact or Good progress task, click Do it → to open the page where you fix it. When you’ve fixed it, come back and click Mark done. On the Quick win, click Take a look →.

Once you’ve clicked Mark done or Take a look →, the coach says “Done for today. Come back tomorrow for one new task.” To carry on with the rest of your list, click the link under it: Want to keep going? Open your To do list →

Mark done on a task marks its card done on your to-do list, and Tendlio checks it against your data in the next analysis, as it does on the To do page. If the problem is still there, the card comes back to your list, and the coach can pick it again. Some cards leave only once their problem is fixed, such as Fill in cost prices to see your Inventory Score. Those have no Mark done on the coach, just as they have none on the To do page.

If your to-do list has only one card with a button, the coach shows one bigger task instead of two. If there are none, it says “Nothing urgent needs work today. Keep the habit with a quick check:” and shows only the Quick win.

When the coach starts with a tool #

Until Tendlio is saving abandoned checkouts, or one of its tools has brought in a sale you can see on Sales lift, the coach shows one tool to set up instead of tasks, under Start here. That tool is cart recovery, which starts by saving abandoned checkouts without emailing anyone. The coach does this even when other tools are on. The exception is a Critical card on your to-do list: while you have one, the coach shows your tasks, starting with that card.

  • The tool’s button opens its page, where you switch it on when you’re ready. Once cart recovery is on, the coach gives you tasks.
  • See all growth tools opens Growth engine.
  • Not now opens Why not today?, with a few reasons to pick from.

Keep your streak #

At the top of the Growth coach page, you see your streak, for example 5-day streak. Until you have one, it says Do one task today to start your streak. A day counts when you click Mark done on a Biggest impact or Good progress task, or Take a look → on the Quick win. Opening a task with Do it → doesn’t count on its own. While the coach shows Start here instead of tasks, no day counts, because there’s no task to mark done. If you miss a day, your next task starts a new streak.

Each person who uses Tendlio has their own streak.

Get a daily reminder #

  1. On the Growth coach page, open Coach options.
  2. Switch on Show a reminder in the admin once a day.
  3. Click Save settings.

A banner then shows at the top of your WordPress admin pages, with a line about today’s task and two buttons: Open it → and Not today. Not today hides it until tomorrow. The banner doesn’t show once you’ve done today’s task, and it stays off the Growth coach page and WooCommerce’s own screens, such as Orders, Analytics and Settings.

Under Coach options, you can also give the coach a name to greet you by, in What should the coach call you? (optional).

The reminder switch and the name apply to the whole store: if you turn on the reminder, everyone who uses Tendlio gets it, greeted by the same name. Not today and your streak are yours alone.

Turn the coach off #

  1. Open Settings → General, and find Growth coach.
  2. Switch off Turn on the Coach, and click Save settings.

Growth coach leaves your menu, and the reminder stops.

Why the coach works this way #

Several tasks, one to do #

When the coach shows tasks, it puts the top of your to-do list next to a quick look, so even a busy day has a task that takes about two minutes. You pick the one that fits your time, and any one of them keeps your streak going.

Your streak doesn’t change your scores #

If marking tasks done raised your scores, a score could go up while the problem behind it was still in your store. Your scores change when your store’s data changes, at the next analysis.

Frequently asked questions #

Does the coach change my scores? #

No. Your scores change when your store's data changes, at the next analysis. The streak is there to help you keep going.

Why did a task I marked done come back? #

Tendlio checks every card you mark done against your data in the next analysis. If the problem is still there, the card comes back to your to-do list, and the coach can pick it again.

Why does the coach suggest a tool instead of tasks? #

Until Tendlio is saving abandoned checkouts, or one of its tools has brought in a sale you can see on Sales lift, the coach starts with cart recovery. Once you switch cart recovery on, it gives you tasks.
