Two Tendlio features can give a customer a WooCommerce coupon code: the recovery offer email and Customer recognition. Tendlio makes each code for one customer at the moment it’s needed, and deletes the ones nobody used a month after they expire.

Which features make codes #

  • Recover sales: when a saved checkout gets the offer email, the second of the two recovery emails, that email carries a code for free shipping or for a percentage off. Tendlio makes the code at the moment that email goes out, so the days it stays valid count from then, and the email prints the date it stops working. The percentage is your Discount % on the Settings and email tab (10% unless you change it), and a code stays valid for 7 days unless you change Coupon validity there in Advanced mode. On the Carts tab, you can also open a saved checkout and click Generate coupon to make a code yourself, for example to paste into your own message. A code you make this way counts its days from when you click. When the offer email goes out for that checkout, it sends your code instead of making a new one, as long as the code hasn’t expired and still gives what the email says: free shipping, or your current Discount %. If the customer has already used your code, the offer email doesn’t go out.
  • Customer recognition: when a logged-in customer from a group you reward (Champions and Loyal, unless you change it) visits your cart or shop pages and a code is due for them, a thank-you notice shows them a code. A code is due once they’ve placed 5 more orders since their last code, and at least 45 days have passed since it. For their first code, all their orders count. You can change both numbers in Advanced mode. On the Customer recognition page, both Greet recognized customers on the storefront and Occasional coupon need to be switched on. The discount is your Coupon discount % (10% unless you change it, or set a different one for a group under Per-segment offer in Advanced mode), and the code stays valid for 14 days unless you change Coupon valid for in Advanced mode.

Codes from each feature start with their own word: COMEBACK- for recovery and VIP- for Customer recognition. In the WooCommerce coupon list they appear in lowercase. Campaigns don’t make codes: if a campaign email offers a discount, you write your own code into it.

What every Tendlio code has in common #

  • It works for one order.
  • It only works for the email address it was made for. WooCommerce checks that address at checkout.
  • It can’t be used together with another coupon in the same order, whether that coupon is yours or Tendlio’s.
  • Percentage rewards don’t apply to products already on sale. The other products in the cart still get the discount, and the email, notice or page that shows the code says so under it.
  • A recovery code for free shipping also works when the cart has products on sale.

Free-shipping offers #

Before recovery promises free shipping, it checks that every active shipping zone can accept it through a coupon. In WooCommerce, that means each zone has a Free shipping method whose Free shipping requires is set to A valid free shipping coupon or A minimum order amount OR coupon. That includes the zone WooCommerce uses for locations your other zones don’t cover, if it has a shipping method. If one zone can’t accept it, recovery offers the discount instead, and the Settings and email tab tells you which setting to change.

When no code goes out #

  • It’s a saved cart, not a checkout: carts get the reminder only, never an offer email or a code.
  • Coupons are switched off in WooCommerce (WooCommerce → Settings → General, Enable the use of coupon codes): neither feature makes a code. The recovery reminder still goes out, but the offer email doesn’t. Customer recognition shows no thank-you at all, because the thank-you comes with the code.
  • The saved checkout is under your Minimum basket for an offer: the customer gets the reminder, and no offer email.
  • Every product in the saved checkout is on sale: a percentage code would take nothing off, so the offer becomes free shipping if your zones can accept it through a coupon. If they can’t, no offer email goes out.

Where you see the codes #

  • In WooCommerce → Marketing → Coupons, like any other coupon. Each one has a description that ends in (Tendlio), for example “Auto-generated cart-recovery offer (Tendlio).”, so searching the list for Tendlio shows only these.
  • In the Discount report, the Sent by column marks each code You or Tendlio, and a line under the totals says how much of the discount came from codes Tendlio sent.
  • The Discount-led view on the Customer list leaves Tendlio’s codes out, so a customer doesn’t land there for using a thank-you code you sent them.

Cleanup #

  • Once a day, Tendlio deletes its codes that expired more than 30 days ago and were never used. They’re deleted for good, not moved to the trash.
  • A code that was used stays, because it belongs to an order.
  • If an offer email fails and won’t be sent again, Tendlio deletes the code it made for that email right away, since the code never reached anyone. A code you made with Generate coupon is never deleted this way. It follows the same rule as every other code: deleted 30 days after it expires, if nobody used it.

If you edit a Tendlio code #

You can change a Tendlio code in WooCommerce like any other coupon. If you change a code you made with Generate coupon before the offer email goes out, for example its amount or the email it’s limited to, the offer email doesn’t use it: Tendlio makes a new code that matches what the email says. A code that has already been sent works the way you changed it, even where that differs from what its email says.

Why the codes work this way #

  • One customer and one order: a code that’s forwarded or posted on a coupon site doesn’t work at a checkout with a different email address.
  • Not together with another coupon: the discount stays the one the email or notice promised, and doesn’t add up with your own promotions.
  • No percentage off sale products: a product you’ve already marked down doesn’t get a second discount on top.
  • Made when it’s sent: a code Tendlio makes for an email starts counting its days when the email goes out, so none pass before the customer gets it. An email opened late still prints the right end date. A code you make with Generate coupon counts its days from when you made it.

Frequently asked questions #

Can a customer use a Tendlio code together with my own coupon? #

No. Every Tendlio code is set so it can't be combined with another coupon in the same order.

Why did a customer's code take nothing off one product? #

That product was on sale. A Tendlio percentage code only discounts the products that aren't on sale.

Do I need to delete old Tendlio coupons? #

No. Codes nobody used are deleted 30 days after they expire, and used codes stay with their orders.

Why didn't a customer get a recovery offer? #

Only a saved checkout gets an offer, not a saved cart. The offer needs WooCommerce coupons switched on and a checkout at or above your minimum basket. If every product in the checkout was on sale and your zones can't give free shipping through a coupon, no offer goes out either.
