How to choose who can use Tendlio and how its menu looks

5 min read

The Access & appearance card, under Settings → General, decides whether your shop managers can use Tendlio, and how Tendlio shows up in your WordPress menu. An administrator can always use Tendlio, and a few settings stay with administrators whatever you choose here.

You will learn #

  • How to let your shop managers use Tendlio
  • What only an administrator can change
  • How to switch to the app layout, and make its menu narrower
  • How to keep Tendlio and the pages you use most one click away in the WordPress menu

Before you begin #

  • Only an administrator can change who has access. A shop manager doesn’t see Who can access on the card.

Let your shop managers use Tendlio #

  1. In your WordPress admin, open Tendlio → Settings. The General tab opens.
  2. In Access & appearance, under Who can access, choose Administrators + Shop managers.
  3. Click Save settings. The page reloads with the change.

Your shop managers can then open Tendlio’s pages and use its fields on the product screen, such as Supplier and Pack size. They can also change Tendlio’s other settings, including switching email sending to Live and turning on Auto outlet. To take their access away, choose Administrators only and save.

What stays with administrators #

Even after you let shop managers in, these stay with administrators:

  • Who can access itself.
  • The License & data sharing card, with your license key and Share usage events.
  • Data retention and Delete data when you uninstall on Help → System status, and the Messages you sent from Help on the same page.
  • Deleting old history from the Views to sales report.
  • The answer to Is this your live store, or a copy? on the Site address page, after your store’s address changes.

On System status, the Views to sales report and the Site address page, a shop manager sees a line such as “Only an administrator can change this.” where the control would be. Three things don’t show for them at all: Who can access and the License & data sharing card on the Settings page, and the Messages you sent from Help on System status.

The order screens #

Two things Tendlio adds to WooCommerce’s order screens don’t follow the choice above: the Segment column on your orders list, and the customer box that Customer recognition adds to an order. Anyone who can open your orders sees them, because they describe the order in front of that person. If other people pack your orders, How to thank your best customers with Customer recognition explains how to keep a customer’s spend and history out of that box.

Switch to the app layout #

The app layout hides the WordPress menu on Tendlio’s pages and puts Tendlio’s own menu in a sidebar on the left. Your other WordPress pages don’t change. Without the app layout, Tendlio’s menu runs across the top of its pages, and the WordPress menu stays on the left. Setup asks whether you want the app layout, and you can change your answer here at any time.

  1. In Access & appearance, turn on Use the app-style layout (recommended).
  2. Click Save settings. The page reloads in the new layout.

At the bottom of the sidebar:

  • Collapse menu shrinks the sidebar to icons, so the page gets more room. Hover over an icon to see the pages under it. Expand menu makes the sidebar wide again.
  • Show WordPress menu brings the WordPress menu back on the page you’re on. The next page you open hides it again.
  • The Simple / Advanced switch changes how many settings Tendlio shows. How to switch between Simple and Advanced mode explains it.

The app layout is one setting for everyone who uses Tendlio on your site, but each person who logs in chooses for themselves whether the sidebar is wide or collapsed.

If you keep the menu across the top and it doesn’t fit in one row, for example on a narrow screen, Tendlio offers Switch to app layout. That button changes the layout for everyone, like the setting above. Not now hides the offer for you.

Choose how Tendlio shows in your WordPress menu #

Three more settings in Access & appearance decide how Tendlio shows in the WordPress menu. Click Save settings after you change any of them.

  • Menu icon: Highlight the suite icon in the sidebar gives Tendlio’s icon its own color, so it’s easy to spot in a long menu. Turn it off to give the icon the same color as the rest of your menu.
  • Menu position: Pin Tendlio to the top of the menu puts Tendlio right below Dashboard. Turn it off to leave Tendlio lower down, below WooCommerce.
  • Sidebar shortcuts: open Choose pages to pin and tick the pages you open most. They show in the WordPress menu, in Tendlio’s part of it, under a Shortcuts heading.

If you use the app layout, Tendlio’s pages hide the WordPress menu, so you reach your shortcuts from WordPress’s other pages, such as your WooCommerce orders. On Tendlio’s own pages, its sidebar has every page anyway.

Why some settings stay with administrators #

These settings decide what Tendlio sends to us and what’s deleted for good: your license and usage events, how long Tendlio keeps older records, and whether deleting the plugin deletes your data. That’s the owner’s call. With them kept for administrators, a shop manager can use Tendlio every day without being able to change any of them.

The rest of the Settings page #

The other cards under Settings → General, and where each one is explained:

  • Store: your Store vertical. How to set up Tendlio and run your first analysis
  • Advanced options & guidance: Advanced mode, the guided tours and the Getting started guide. How to switch between Simple and Advanced mode
  • Growth coach: a daily move from your to-do list. How to get a daily task from the Growth coach
  • Costs & profit: cost prices and margins. How to give Tendlio your product costs
  • Inventory: your Default lead time, and in Advanced mode your Stockout warning. How to decide what to restock and how much to order
  • Storefront: measuring views, clicks and sales on your shop. Your data and privacy
  • Which orders count as a sale: shows when your store has order statuses to choose from. Which orders count as a sale
  • Experimental & license and License & data sharing: Experimental features, your license key and usage events. Your data and privacy explains the usage events.
  • Setup: run the setup wizard again, or replay the welcome tour. Starting over, or what happens if I uninstall

Next to General are two more tabs. Email sending sets up how your emails go out, and How to set up email sending and switch it to Live explains it. History lists what you and Tendlio have done, and How to see your activity and cleared to-dos in History explains it.

Additional resources #

  • How to switch between Simple and Advanced mode: the switch at the bottom of the menu, and the guided tours.
  • How to use the System status page: the settings there that only an administrator can change.
  • How to thank your best customers with Customer recognition: the customer box on the order screen.

Frequently asked questions #

Can a shop manager change who has access to Tendlio? #

No. Only an administrator sees Who can access, and only an administrator can change the license, usage events, data retention and the setting that deletes your data along with the plugin.

Does the app layout change the rest of my WordPress admin? #

No. It changes Tendlio's pages only. Your other admin pages keep the WordPress menu as usual.

Can each person choose their own layout? #

The app layout itself is one setting for everyone on your site. Each person can collapse or expand the sidebar for themselves.
