How to check your tools on the Growth engine page

8 min read

The Growth engine page lists the tools that work for you once you switch them on, such as the product rows in your shop, the emails to your customers and Auto outlet. Each tool has a card that says whether it’s off, running or held back, and how it’s doing, with a button to the page where you switch it on or change it.

You will learn #

  • What the counts at the top of the page mean
  • Which tool the page suggests switching on next
  • What each status on a card means, and what to do when a tool needs a look
  • What the amounts on the cards and at the top of the page count

Open the Growth engine page #

  1. In your WordPress admin, open Tendlio → Growth engine.

On Tendlio’s pages, the menu at the top shows a number next to Growth engine: how many tools you’ve switched on. The Dashboard shows the same tools as smaller tiles under Your growth engine, and Open growth engine there brings you to the Growth engine page.

Read the counts at the top #

Under Automation status, the counts sort your tools by where they stand:

  • running: switched on and working.
  • ready to review: switched on, with at least 30 days of results. The 30 days count from the tool’s first recorded activity, such as the first shopper who saw a product row or the first saved checkout, not from the day you switched it on.
  • need a look: switched on, but something holds the tool back. The page shows this count only while at least one tool needs a look, and the status on each of those cards names the problem.
  • still off: not switched on yet.

Once your tools have brought in sales, the amount appears under the counts, next to earned back since you switched these on. Click it to open the Sales lift page, which shows what each feature brought in.

Switch on the next tool #

The card under Best place to start suggests the next tool to switch on. The suggestions start with the tools you switch on in one click, and Cart recovery comes first because it needs time: saving abandoned checkouts starts the day you switch it on, and Tendlio times the recovery offer from how long those shoppers take to come back on their own.

A few tools are never suggested there: the welcome and second-order emails, Seasonal detection, and the Recommended for you, Trending now and Boosted products rows. Switch those on from their own cards when you’re ready. Your summary email isn’t suggested either. It’s on from the start.

  1. Read the card. It says what the tool does and what you’ll see once it runs.
  2. Click the button on the card, for example Set up review requests. It opens the page where you switch the tool on.
  3. Switch the tool on there, and save.

When you come back, the card suggests the next one. Once every tool it suggests is on, the card shows a tool whose results are ready instead, with See report. While none of your tools has results yet, it shows the tool whose card comes first on the page.

Read a card #

The cards are in groups, such as On-site selling and Follow-up & loyalty. Within each group, the tools that need a look come first, then the ones with results ready, then the running ones, and the tools that are off come last.

Each card shows:

  • The tool’s name, with its status in the corner.
  • What the tool does.
  • A line about its results. A product row that has sold something shows Earning with an amount, and under it how many purchases came after how many clicks. The Review requests card shows how many ratings have come in, and the Seasonal detection card how many products it keeps out of your slow-stock lists while they’re out of season. Before a tool has results, the line says what it’s waiting for, such as Waiting for shopper activity.
  • A button. While the tool is off, it opens the page where you switch the tool on. While the tool is on, it opens the tool’s page, and once the results are ready, it reads See report and opens the tool’s report.

Campaigns, which you start yourself, don’t have a card. Neither do the free gift, the price test and Smart 404 suggestions from the Experimental page. The Review requests card appears once you’ve turned Reviews on from the Experimental page.

What each status means #

  • Off: the tool isn’t switched on yet. A few tools also read Off with their switch on, until something else is in place:
    • Recommended for you, Trending now, the Boosted products row and the Deals page, until Tendlio finds their shortcode on a published page or post.
    • On-sale picks, while Experimental features are off.
    • The welcome and second-order emails, while they have no finished email to send. Their button then says Choose an email or Finish the email.
  • Running: the tool is on and working.
  • Results ready: the tool has at least 30 days of results. Click See report to see whether it’s paying off.
  • On, but not showing: a product row, or the thank-you from Customer recognition, is switched on but doesn’t appear in your shop. The card says why when Tendlio knows the cause, for example that Customer recognition’s coupon is switched off. Otherwise, the status means Tendlio hasn’t seen the tool’s spot in your shop load for a week, counted from when you switched it on or from when it last showed. Open the tool with its button: the card and the tool’s page name the fix, which for a product row is a shortcode to place. For the other fixes, see A storefront widget doesn’t show up.
  • On, but not running: the tool is switched on, but something stops it, and the card says what. The email tools wait while customer email sending is Off: switch sending to Live under Settings → Email sending. On a copy of your store, the email tools show this status too, because Tendlio doesn’t send emails or change prices there. Auto outlet shows it when you’ve set it to Live but it can’t go Live yet, and its card says why.
  • On, in preview: Auto outlet is in Preview. It plans the discounts without changing any prices. Switch it to Live when the plan looks right.
  • On, waiting for scores: Smart Product Sort is on, but your products don’t have profit scores yet, so your listings show the newest products first. The profit order takes over after your next analysis.
  • Showing, but not measured: the tool shows in your shop, but the views and clicks it’s judged on aren’t reaching Tendlio, so the figures on its card stay where they were. Either you’ve switched storefront measurement off, or Tendlio’s script isn’t reporting from your shop, for example because a caching plugin, a cookie tool or a script error is in the way. A note above the cards says which it is. For what to check, see Tendlio isn’t recording product visits.

What the amounts count #

  • Earning on a product row’s card counts what the row brought in over the last 90 days, or since you switched it on if that’s more recent. Measuring what the widgets earn explains which purchases count.
  • Recovered on the Cart recovery card is what the abandoned checkouts and carts that came back after a recovery email were worth, counted from the day Tendlio started saving them. Until one comes back, the card shows how many abandoned checkouts and carts are still open and what they’re worth: money you could win back, not money earned.
  • Earning on the Auto outlet card is what discounted products brought in beyond their pace before the discount: the extra units they sold, at the discounted price.
  • The amount at the top counts everything Tendlio can tie to its tools since you switched them on. It’s the same total as on the Sales lift page and in Earned back on the Dashboard.

The cards can add up to less than that total. A product row’s card counts only its last 90 days, a tool you’ve switched off shows no amount, and some features count in the total without an amount on any Growth engine card, such as campaigns and the welcome and second-order emails. The Sales lift page shows what each of them brought in.

Why the page works this way #

A tool that’s switched on can still do nothing #

A product row can be switched on in a spot your theme never loads, and a recovery email can wait for sending to go Live. If the page showed those as running, you’d find out weeks later that nothing happened. So a switched-on tool that’s held back gets its own status, and its card comes first in its group.

Results ready counts from the first activity #

A tool you switched on a month ago that saw its first shopper activity last week hasn’t had time to show what it does. So the 30 days start at its first recorded activity.

The suggestions start with the one-click tools #

Tools you switch on with one click start working the same day, so they come first. The ones that take a few minutes to set up, such as Auto outlet and review requests, come after them. That way something is working for you while you set up the rest. The welcome and second-order emails aren’t suggested at all: they need an email you choose and fill in first, so the card leaves them to you.

Frequently asked questions #

I switched a widget on. Why does its card say Off? #

Recommended for you, Trending now, the Boosted products row and the Deals page count as on only once Tendlio finds their shortcode on a published page or post. Paste the shortcode into a page, publish it, and the card changes.

Why do the cards add up to less than the total at the top? #

The total counts every sale Tendlio can tie to its tools since you switched them on. A product row's card counts its last 90 days, a tool you've switched off shows no amount, and campaigns and the welcome and second-order emails have no amount on a card here. The Sales lift page shows each of them.

Why isn't the welcome email suggested under Best place to start? #

The card suggests the main tools that work in your shop and on your orders, starting with the ones you switch on in one click. The welcome and second-order emails need an email you choose and fill in first, so the card leaves them to you. Switch them on from their own cards.
